The Wheel Inn is located minutes from Rudyard Kipling's former home Batemans, making us ideally located for exploring the East Sussex picturesque countryside.
For the past three years, The Wheel Inn has been run by David, Lesley, and Oliver Pay. Situated in the village of Burwash Weald, the friendly traditional pub, built in the 17th century, has been a popular destination for decades. Head Chef, David, has a wide range of experience, including working at the Grande Hotel, Brighton, and French Connection, and specialises in English and French Cuisine. Recently joined by Sous Chef Chris Roberts, who travelled the world first with the army, and secondly to see the sights and experience the food, the two combine to create a mixture of classical and innovative dishes.
Locally Sourced Menu
The Wheel Inn offers both an A la Carte, and a Bar Menu, providing a wide range of choice for any occasion. Both menus are seasonal and change regularly but could include fish, such as Seabass, Plaice, Monkfish and Dover Sole. A firm favourite on the menu is Rib Eye steak, served with Davids' own Café de Paris butter. There is a comprehensive range of vegetarian dishes, plus a delicious choice of homemade desserts. A Children's' Menu is also available or they can choose half portions from the main menu. All meals are cooked to order and are sourced with local produce from Sussex and Kent.
A Traditional Carvery is available from twelve thirty to two thirty every Sunday, which includes Beef, Lamb, Pork and Chicken. Adults Carvery is £8.95, and children's' is £5.25.
Local Ales
The bar has a wide variety of bottled and draught beer including Guinness, Harvey's of Lewes Best Bitter, Young's, Fosters, Stella, and Carling, as well as a regular range of Guest Ales. Draught Cider includes Bulmers and Strongbow. Guest Ales, including Young's and Bombardier, also are changed regularly.
Function Areas
The Wheel Inn includes a large beer garden with a children's' play area, a function room, and a games room.
Outside Catering
A new venture for David and Oliver is Wonkey Donkey Cuisine, which was launched at the beginning of 2009. The outside catering division provides the same high quality dishes and drinks, and caters for weddings, parties and other celebrations. Particular specialities include Hog Roasts, Paella, and Seafood Bars.

Although a booking is not always necessary, it is advisable, as The Wheel Inn has a dedicated following of customers, who choose to make it a weekly destination for excellent food at reasonable prices.
